Orbit is a browser extension that helps you organize tabs, collections, and workspaces. This page explains exactly what data Orbit collects, what it's used for, what never leaves your device, and how you can request data deletion.

Orbit is operated independently on its own self-hosted infrastructure — it isn't part of a large tech corporation, doesn't sell user data, and doesn't include ads or third-party tracking.

1. Data you provide when creating an account

Sign in with Google / Apple — Orbit only supports signing in via Google or Apple; there's no separate password. Orbit only receives the email, display name, and avatar provided by Google/Apple, and never receives your Google/Apple account password.
Display name, avatar, and bio (optional).

2. Content you create in Orbit

Workspaces, collections, and the tabs (URL, title, favicon) you actively save.
Custom background and widget images, if you upload them.
Content of your personal widgets on the Home page — Quick Notes, Appointments, Timetable, Work Schedule, and Menstrual Cycle (start date, cycle length). This data belongs only to you and isn't shown to anyone else, including members of workspaces you share — it's stored on Orbit's servers solely to sync across the devices you're signed in on.
Activity log within shared workspaces (who created/edited/deleted what) — visible only to members of that workspace.
Activity status — when you're in a shared workspace, other members of that workspace can see whether you're online (inferred from whether the extension has an open connection to the server) and your total active time on Orbit for that day. Orbit does not track your activity outside the extension.

All of this data is stored on Orbit's own servers to sync across the devices you're signed in on.

3. Data that stays only on your device — never sent to the server

Some widgets on the Home page are stored only in your browser (chrome.storage.local), and Orbit cannot see or access them:

Chrome usage time (total time the Chrome window is focused during the day).
Chrome usage analysis (work/leisure) — Orbit reads today's browsing history directly on your device to calculate this, but your browsing history and the analysis results are never sent to Orbit's servers or any third party.

4. AI feature (AI Analysis)

When you actively click "AI Analysis" in the Quick Save feature, Orbit sends the titles and URLs of the tabs you're saving (along with the names of your existing workspaces/collections) to a third-party AI model to suggest how to organize them. This feature only runs when you actively request it — it never runs in the background or automatically.

5. Location (Weather widget)

If you allow it, the Weather widget uses your browser's location (the Geolocation API — your browser will always ask before sharing it, it's never enabled automatically) to get your coordinates, then sends those coordinates directly to Open-Meteo (a third-party weather data provider) to get the current temperature. Your location never passes through and is never stored on Orbit's servers. You can also skip this and type in a city name instead of sharing your location.

6. Permissions the extension requests

tabs / activeTab — reads the title and URL of open tabs so you can save/organize them, and opens new tabs when you use the "Open all" feature in a collection/workspace.
tabGroups — groups the tabs just opened via "Open all" into a named, colored tab group matching the collection's name/color.
storage — stores settings and widget data locally in the browser.
favicon — displays the icons of the websites you've saved.
identity — supports the Google/Apple sign-in flow.
alarms — runs background timers (e.g., tracking Chrome usage time).
history — reads today's browsing history so the "Chrome usage analysis" feature can work; processed entirely on your device as described in section 3.

7. Sharing with third parties

Google / Apple — only when you choose to sign in using these methods.
LemonSqueezy — payment processing partner for the Pro plan. Orbit does not store your card details; LemonSqueezy handles the payment and only reports back to Orbit the plan status (active or not).
AI model provider — only receives tab data when you actively use the "AI Analysis" feature (section 4).
Open-Meteo — only receives location coordinates when you use the Weather widget (section 5).

Orbit does not sell, rent, or share your data for advertising purposes.

8. Login sessions & devices

For the "Devices" feature in Settings to work (letting you view and revoke login sessions), Orbit records the browser/operating system type (from the User-Agent) and the IP address at the time each session signs in.

9. Security

Connections between the extension and the server always go over HTTPS. You can manage and revoke login sessions yourself at any time in Settings → Devices.

10. Deleting your data

Orbit doesn't currently have a self-service account deletion button in the app. To request deletion of all your account data, please contact us via the email in section 12 — requests are processed as soon as possible.

11. Children

Orbit is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
